"BIG RED" WAS DONATED TO B-36 PEACEMAKER MUSEUM AS A PART OF FORT WORTH AVIATION HISTORY. THIS TRUCK WAS STATIONED AT TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. THE SAME TRUCKS WERE STATIONED AT CARSWELL AIR FORCE BASE, FORT WORTH, TEXAS IN THE 1950's & 60's. THE 0-10 & 0-11A WERE DESIGNED LIKE A LONG BOX SO THEY COULD BE FLOWN IN A CARGO AIRCRAFT ALL OVER THE WORLD TO WHERE THEY WERE STATIONED. THEY WERE DESIGNED TO TAKE A LOT OF HEAT SO THEY COULD GET IN CLOSE TO AN AIRCRAFT FIRE TO GET THE AIRCREW OUT AND TO PROTECT THE FIREMEN WHO WERE OPERATING THEM. THEY WERE 8 FEET WIDE, 12 FEET HIGH AND 32 FEET LONG. EACH ONE CARRIED 1,000 GALLONS OF WATER AND 100 GALLONS OF FOAM. THE TURRETS COULD SHOOT 30 TO 35 FOOT STREAMS OF FOAM. A FIVE MAN CREW INCLUDED A CREW CHIEF, TURRET OPERATOR, DRIVER AND TWO RESCUE/HAND-LINEMEN. THE NEWER STRIKER CRASH TRUCKS CARRY 4,5000 GALLONS OF WATER. THEY MIXED WATER WITH FOAM AND AIR TO ALMOST DOUBLE THE AGENT DISPENSED. THE LAST PHOTO BELOW SHOWS WHAT THE CRASH TRUCK WILL LOOK LIKE WHEN COMPLETED. WE PULLED HER FROM A FARM WHERE SHE HAD BEEN FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS.
BIG RED HAS NEW TIRES, NEW SEATS, NEW EMERGENCY LIGHTS, REBUILT ENGINE, REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE TRAIN, REBUILT POWER STEERING, REBUILT BRAKES, REBUILD AIR SYSTEM, AND NEW FUEL TANK. NOW SHE IS GOING TO BE PROFESSIONALLY PAINTED.
